About Me

My name is Matt Van Der Westhuizen, I live in Johannesburg, South Africa with my wonderful fiancée Michelle.

I have an Honours Degree in Computer Science and I have been working as a software developer in the telecommunications industry for the last 6 years, mainly developing integration software and web applications.

I was introduced to Linux and the concept of open-source shortly after beginning my studies and I have been an ardent user and fan of open-source software ever since - I strive to use open-source in my projects where possible and I am currently working on an open-source game called Jumpers as a way of giving something back to the open-source community.

I love playing games: computer-, console-, roleplaying-, board- or card-games - all are welcome! I have dreamed of becoming a game developer since high-school and now that I've finally started making some progress with that as a hobby I find that it is hard work, but every bit as thrilling as I imagined! There isn't much in the way of games published here, but that will begin to change soon...

About This Website

This website is where I publish everything and anything that interests me - from games I've developed, to showing off websites I've designed or just writing down my mad ramblings.

The name ChaoticEngine is taken from the Python-based game engine that I wrote a few years ago - I was going to use it to develop a remake of Chaos: Battle of Wizards by Julian Gollop, but my engine ran into severe performance problems and I aborted it... it's still a good name for a game development studio though.
